Haiti's largest hospital, the Hopital de L'Universite d'Etat d'Haiti, in Port-au-Prince, is severely overburdened, understaffed, and underfunded.
Because Haiti lacks any kind of real health infrastructure, non-governmental organizations struggle to provide some health care to Haitians. Mèdecins Sans Frontières began providing emergency care for victims of gang and political violence.
